Designer radiator installation in Caerphilly

The job

The customer had an older radiator sitting on the wall where a new TV unit was going, so it had to move. They wanted new radiators in new positions in the room, with the pipework hidden rather than run across the wall. The existing radiator was a large one, so before anything was ordered they needed to know what heat output the replacements had to give if the room was still going to heat properly.

What we did

We started with a heat loss calculation for the room. That gave the customer the figure they needed, so they could choose designer radiators large enough to heat the space rather than working from the size of the old unit. The job then ran over two visits. The first was the first fix: chasing channels into the walls to take the pipework, protecting the pipes inside the chases and setting them so they came out of the wall precisely where the valves needed to be. We passed on the details of a plasterer we trust to make good the chases. A couple of weeks later we returned for the second fix, running the pipes under the floorboards, teeing them into the primary heating circuits, then hanging the radiators and piping them up. The radiators are a metallic designer finish in gunmetal grey.

Challenges

The tightest part of the work was under the floorboards. There was very little room where the new pipe runs had to be connected into the existing heating circuits, so those connections took time and care to get right.

The result

The fitting took a day and a half across the visits. The pipes line up with the valves, the radiators sit where the room needed them and the wall the old radiator came off is now clear for the TV unit. The customer wanted a high standard of finish and was pleased with the result.
